Inaugural Workshop of the Southwest Stormwater Center
June 9 & 10, 2026 | Southern California Coastal Water Research Project
SCCWRP | 3535 Harbor Blvd. Suite 110, Costa Mesa, CA 92626
Over the next few years, the newly established Southwest Stormwater Center (SWSC) will be translating regional stormwater best practices into accessible tools and guidance for practitioners, decision-makers and communities across the arid and semi-arid Southwest. We need help from the practitioner community to ensure our work is aligned to the needs and priorities of end users across the Southwest, including California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.
The SWSC will host a two-day workshop on June 9–10, 2026, in Southern California to support this effort. The June 9 public session will be open to broader participation, offering an opportunity for community members to engage in an interactive, collaborative discussion on developing relevant and useful resources. The June 10 session will be a closed workshop for invited Southwest participants.
The workshop will begin with an overview of each of the Center’s five major topic areas:
- Design, monitoring and assessment of stormwater BMPs
- Stormwater capture, treatment and use
- Stormwater planning and management strategies for impaired receiving waters
- Funding and financing options for stormwater control solutions
- Community outreach and engagement
The workshop will bring together representatives from municipalities, community groups, industrial stormwater managers, regulatory agencies, NGOs, consulting groups, and academia.
We will provide an overview of the SWSC, demonstrate the utility of our latest products, and brainstorm recommendations for what types of technical tools, information and other products the SWSC should produce next to best support stormwater management challenges across the Southwest.
The workshop will be held in person at the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP), an aquatic science research agency that is co-leading SWSC with DRI. SCCWRP is in the heart of Orange County, CA, near major freeways and multiple airports. There will be a remote attendance option for the June 9 session.
