Environmental Geomechanics Laboratory

Lab Description

Soils form the top layers of the land surface, which exposes them to mechanical forces from vehicles, plants, animals, water, and wind. In this laboratory, we study the interaction between mechanical forces and soil to explain:

  • How soil compaction and erosion work
  • How disturbed soil can be restored
  • How soil creates a hospitable environment for plants and animals
  • How fire can lead to flooding and debris flows
