Flow to the Future: A Nevada Water Workforce Program is a website dedicated to increasing career interest in the water sector. Through a series of curricular resources developed for middle and high school, students will learn about the importance of community water services through engaging, hands-on STEM lessons.
This site is sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency’s Innovative Water Infrastructure Workforce Development Grant.
Educational Resources
Green Boxes
Green Boxes are self-contained teaching kits that provide educators with two or more weeks worth of lesson plans along with all of the supplies necessary to conduct each activity. Every box uses active learning strategies to engage students in hands-on projects that foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These lessons are designed to enhance student literacy in various water topics as they relate to Northern and Southern Nevada. Best of all, this resource is offered FREE of cost to any formal or informal educator in Nevada!
Watersheds and Sources
This unit introduces students to the concept of watersheds, helps students understand and model their local watershed (including both surface and groundwater), and explores watershed connectivity.
Water Quality
This Green Box explores water quality and treatment including water pollution from runoff, water quality testing, and water treatment.
Virtual Curriculum
Online versions of the above Green Box curriculums are available to anyone who would like to teach the lessons but do not have access to the Green Boxes (either due to living outside of DRI’s shipping area or because the boxes are fully checked out).
