Description: The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS) is a grassroots nationwide effort to measure precipitation in our backyards. The network started in Colorado after the flood of 1997, and has quickly grown to include all 50 states as of 2009.

The state coordinators for Nevada at DRI are Jim Ashby, Michelle Breckner and Laura Edwards. They work with volunteers to measure rain, hail and snow across the state. Observers use an inexpensive plastic 4 inch diameter rain gauge, and enter their observations online once a day, as their schedules permit. There is no minimum time commitment to the network, and volunteers from ages 11 to 88 are watching the weather in Nevada through CoCoRaHS.
