BACKGROUND: The Frank J. Lamping Elementary installation marks the 13th GreenPower installation in the state. It is the first installation paid for entirely by corporate sponsors Nevada Power Co., the Nevada State Energy Office and Bechtel Nevada. The UNLV Research Foundation also partnered in this endeavor as part of its Solar Technology Center Project.

The installation is also unique because Lamping Elementary has a science center that is open to all Clark County School District students; thus, the entire district will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of green power.

The GreenPower program is a partnership between the Desert Research Institute, DRI's Research Foundation, Sierra Pacific Power Co. in northern Nev. and Nevada Power in southern Nev. The program is supported by voluntary customer contributions made by customers of Nevada Power and Sierra Pacific Power companies through their monthly utility bills. All contributions are 100 percent tax deductible.
