National Science Foundation to Host Conference on Communicating Science to the Public FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Aug. 2, 2011 Contact: Martha Delgado Advances in science and research are increasingly becoming part of news stories today, but for the scientists dedicated to research, communicating scientific discoveries to the public may not be part of their formal training. To smooth the gap that exists between the research outcome and delivering the message for public knowledge, the National Science Foundation has created Science: Becoming the Messenger-Communicating Science to a Non-Technical Audience. It is a series of workshops on how to effectively communicate advances in science to the public. This exciting event will feature three prominent speakers: Emmy award-winning television producer Joe Schreiber; former PBS executive Dan Agan; and best-selling science journalist Chris Mooney. These interactive workshops are designed for participants to gain necessary skills in communicating science and research as well as tailoring messages to a broad audience. Researchers, scientists, undergraduate and graduate students, public information officers and journalist are encouraged to attend.
