You Are Invited - To Make a Difference in Nevada

Join us at the Nevada STEM Coalition’s first statewide summit, “Building Brainpower for a Prosperous Nevada,” on March 9-10, 2012, in Las Vegas. If you are unable to attend, please forward to colleagues.

Two hundred fifty leaders from education, the community, government, and business will assemble to make recommendations addressing selected issues in Nevada’s K-12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and set our state on a path towards improving our workforce, educated citizenry, and numbers of students seeking degrees and careers in STEM fields.

Summit goals include (1) gathering recommendations that can be assembled and submitted to the Nevada Department of Education, Governor Sandoval, and the Nevada Legislative Committee on Education for consideration in drafting STEM education policy and law; and (2) generating commitment and next steps for developing a Nevada STEM Network that promotes a shared vision, increased communication and collaboration, and alignment of goals statewide.

“STEM education in Nevada supports the alignment of education and workforce development to strategic economic opportunities by ensuring that our students and workforce possess the skills and innovation to succeed in a diversified economy.” Governor Brian Sandoval

Nevada STEM Coalition Summit Highlights

“At our company, we employ thousands of scientists and engineers. But our salespeople also need to have enough of a technical background to discuss the merits of our products with expertise. Our marketers need to be fluent in the language of medicine, energy, and high-tech manufacturing. None of these jobs are what you would typically think of as STEM-fields, yet today, all of them require a STEM background."

-- Siemens Corporation President and CEO Eric Spiegel
