The Moapa Band of Paiutes of Southern Nevada will be hosting an Earth Day Event on April 22, 2011 on their reservation located eight miles North of Glendale, Nev. DRI's GreenPower Program will conduct hydroponic gardening activities for adults and children. The instruction will benefit the Paiute Community, as they are in the process of establishing a future community greenhouse as a source for healthy and natural foods. Greenpower staff will also help educate the youth in taking care of the greenhouse and future sustainable concepts.

Earth Day Reno -May 1, 2011

DRI will also participate in Reno's 22nd Annual Earth Day at Idlewild Park (near Reno High School) on Sunday, May 1st from 1 to 5 p.m. DRI will join more than 200 other vendors at the event. Again partnering with NV Energy, DRI's GreenPower program will be unveiling the “Green Vow Wall" for all visitors to log their environmental pledges.

What is GreenPower?

GreenPower provides resources and professional development to help educators teach their students about renewable energy, conservation, and sustainability. Since its inception in 2000, GreenPower has been a partnership between DRI, NV Energy, and their customers. Funded by the generosity of customers voluntarily adding a few dollars to their monthly electrical bill, 100% of the tax-deductible donations go towards green education in Nevada's preK-12 schools. We've including a link to sign-up for the program.

Note to Reporters and Editors: DRI, the nonprofit research campus of the Nevada System of Higher Education, strives to be the world leader in environmental sciences through the application of knowledge and technologies to improve people’s lives throughout Nevada and the world.
