Former Human Genome Project leader to speak at both DRI campuses FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 6, 2009 Renowned physician and genetics researcher Francis Collins, M.D., Ph.D., winner of the 2009 Nevada Medal, awarded annually by DRI to recognize outstanding international achievement in science, engineering and technology will give lectures on DRI campuses in Reno and Las Vegas this week that are open to the public and free of charge.Reno Lecture Las Vegas Lecture Collins served as director of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) at the National Institutes of Health from 1993-2008. He is noted for his landmark discoveries of disease genes, and his leadership of the Human Genome Project. The international project culminated in April 2003 with the completion of a finished sequence of the human DNA instruction book. Building on this foundation, Collins went on to lead NHGRI’s effort to ensure that this sequence data would be used to advance biological knowledge and improve human health. ### |
