DRI to celebrate 50th Anniversary with Open Houses in Reno, Las Vegas, and Boulder City Print E-mail

The first in the series is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Northern Nevada Science Center in Reno

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 18, 2009

RENO, NV-See, feel and experience how DRI’s cutting-edge science is improving lives all over the world. Visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to take a self-guided tour to learn how researchers are using new and innovative research methods and tools to provide scientific solutions to environmental problems in Nevada and throughout the world.

“The open house will be a day of exploration, learning and fun for our guests,” said Dr. Stephen Wells, DRI President. DRI scientists and engineers are eager to show how DRI is working hard to understand how the world around us is changing, by learning from its past and examining life on Earth today.”

There will be equipment and lab demonstrations, a future scientist area for younger guests, and scientific presentations on topics ranging from climate change to fossil discovery, to air pollution and clean drinking water.

Snacks are available for purchase, but lunch will not be provided

50 Years of DRI: Balancing the Needs of Nature and Humankind
Established by the Nevada Legislature in 1959, DRI is a stand-alone educational and research institution of the Nevada System of Higher Education. DRI scientists have traveled from their desert home to the far reaches of the globe to study the air, the land, the water and life forms in many environments. They have investigated the forces of nature and the needs of people in their search for answers.
