DRI Celebrates 50th Anniversary with New Web site Print E-mail

Webmaster will conduct a virtual news conference on Friday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 12, 2009

RENO--DRI will launch its new Web site this week and will hold an unveiling to show off the new look and enhanced features.

On Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m. DRI’s Webmaster Stephan Ross will take the media on a tour of the new site and explain the enhanced features.

“The site has been re-launched with not only a more vibrant look and enhanced navigational tools, but also with additional functionality for the scientists and better access to the information regarding DRI events,” Ross said.

The new site is meant to be easier to use for researchers, the public and the media. The Web site redesign will allow users quicker and easier access to the tools they need.

“We have scientists conducting research in China, Antarctica, Australia, West Africa, Spain, Chile and here in Nevada. DRI needed a Web site that will complement the innovations of these visionary researchers,” said Dr. Stephen Wells, DRI president.

As part of the institute’s 50th Anniversary, DRI launched a rebranding campaign. The campaign focused on connecting the public to the researchers who are investigating climate change, preserving history, conserving the environment, applying new technologies, finding clean water solutions which are improving people’s lives.

“We gave our Web users a sneak preview and invited them to take the site for a test-drive. What we found is ways to better organize the content and present the information,” said Edward Novak, assistant vice president of information technology, chief information officer.

Note to Reporters and Editors: DRI, the nonprofit research campus of the Nevada System of Higher Education, strives to be the world leader in environmental sciences through the application of knowledge and technologies to improve people’s lives throughout Nevada and the world.
