Innovative Equipment Manufacturer Features Work with DRI on Environmental Monitoring

The latest update from Campbell Scientific features a cover article on DRI’s Community Environmental Monitoring Program (CEMP) and other environmental monitoring activities in which the companies’ instruments are used.

Published quarterly, the Campbell Update provides new product information, case studies, company news, and other information relating to our stand-alone measurement and control systems.

The CEMP is founded on the principle that volunteers, who live in the communities near the Nevada Test Site, oversee the off-site monitoring for radiation. The article touts the program for providing the information gathered by the volunteers, in near-real time, and posting it to the program website at cemp.dri.edu. The article goes on to highlight the Campbell Scientific equipment that is used to gather and transmit the data.

Campbell Scientific instruments have been used by DRI on “portable environmental monitoring stations” (PEMS) when measurements are needed for only a short time at a location. For example, DRI used one of its PEMS in August 2009 to measure and study emissions from a prescribed burn near Ely, Nevada.  In addition, the article features solar-powered meteorological and air sampling stations that DRI is using in which instruments from Campbell Scientific as well as other manufacturers are used.
