Monsoonal rains at the L-Bar, New Mexico, Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act Title II disposal site can occur in short duration/high intensity events that can result in significant runoff and sediment erosion. Storm events in August and September 2011 impacted erosion control structures that were constructed at the site in 2009. Desert Research Institute (DRI) shall evaluate site conditions and existing erosion control structures and provide recommendations for consideration by the DOE Site Manager to manage runoff and erosion at the L-Bar site. This work shall include the activities described below, with the understanding that investigations will be based upon existing data, maps, engineering calculations and drawings, GIS files, reports, etc., that will be provided by DOE, Stoller, or others, and will be supplemented by field observations. The quality and thoroughness of the existing provided documentation may limit the conclusions that can be drawn.
