Project Description

As part of the Joint Planning and Development for water systems in the City of Fernley/Wadsworth Area grant, a supplemental storage analysis will be conducted which will determine the quantity and required time period of storage of surface water to ensure the City of Fernley maximizes its water resources and is able to meet its current and future requirements. Task Item 5.0 of the grant is required to evaluate the options for storage in the local groundwater system during the irrigation season and recovers that stored water during non-irrigation seasons. The State of Nevada, Division of Environmental Protection and Division of Water Resources require a permit prior to implementation of an Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) system. This proposal outlines the components of the study that will be required to update the existing groundwater flow model for the Fernley/Wadsworth basins. The Desert Research Institute (DRI) will work collaboratively with Stanka Consulting and the City of Fernley to create a more accurate groundwater model that can be used to support the application permit required for the project.
