Estimating Open Water Evaporation from Truckee Reservoirs Using Generalized Input Variables

Project Description

The objective of this study is to twofold: 1) develop mean monthly relationships between air temperature and remotely sensed water surface temperature (Tair-Tsurf), air temperature and dew point temperature (Tmin-Tdew), and windspeed, and 2) apply these mean monthly relationships to daily temperature data collected at or nearby reservoirs of interest to empirically estimate the daily Tsurf and Tdew, and employ the bulk transfer equation to estimate evaporation on a daily time step. Monthly and annual evaporation estimates will be developed for Tahoe, Donner, Independence, Prosser, Stampede, Boca, Martis, and Lahontan reservoirs.
