Project Description

The overall objective is to use measurements of a broad range of aerosols and source tracers in the recently available McCall Glacier core from Arctic Alaska to develop a long term history of aerosol concentrations, deposition, and sources in the region. The 150 m ice core is in the archive at the National Ice Core Laboratory (NICL) in Colorado and a formal request for samples from the full length of the ice core has been submitted (June 2) to the NICL-Sample Allocation Committee. Approval for sampling the upper 20 m of the core has already been granted and this sampling will take place in June 2009. Sampling of the remaining part of the core will occur once permission has been obtained and access to NICL arranged.
