DRI will evaluate the potential for depleted uranium (DU) and DU oxides to be transported by water (channel and overland flow, and dissolved phase) at the DU Target Range on the Creech Air Force Base. The objective will be to determine how far DU and DU oxides may be transported over time from precipitation events of different intensities outside of the licensed DU Target Area. Laboratory studies will also be performed to determine reactive processes that could influence the transport potential of the DU oxides. Rainfall runoff and infiltration tests will be performed on different soils in the watershed as inputs to the flow and transport model. Flumes and sediment samplers will be installed to help validate transport predictions when flow events do occur.
