The Cities of Reno and Sparks have initiated a third-party review of the Truckee River Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL). This process will involve the development of significant amounts of technical information that will need to be reviewed and commented on by Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) and other stakeholders. Also, NDEP is the state entity authorized to adopt TMDLs in Nevada with final approval by EPA. In the case of a third-party TMDL, NDEP will need to have significant involvement in all aspects of the TMDL review. Only through close involvement with the TMDL review process will NDEP be able to determine: 1) the adequacy of the technical information generated; and 2) whether or not a TMDL revision is appropriate.
