Education is Key

Fostering scientific talent and providing research-focused educational opportunities are critical to the future of DRI.

Approximately 50 faculty members serve as teachers and advisors. DRI invests more than $1.7 million a year in non-state funds for the support of 50 to 70 graduate and postdoctoral students in Reno and Las Vegas.

DRI is also committed to Nevada’s K-12 education system and sponsors many activities such as the GreenPower Program that directly benefit Nevada students and their teachers.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, DRI is investigating the development of two major initiatives throughout the state.

Plans are underway to explore the creation of an integrated statewide graduate academic program in water resources in collaboration with UNR and UNLV.

Another proposed educational initiative would establish a statewide renewable energy education program designed to help Nevada achieve energy self-sufficiency.

This is another example of a collaborative effort with DRI, UNLV, UNR and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
