Professional Interests

Dr. Chen's research experience and interests include numerical studies on turbulent flow, sediment transport, riverbank erosion, and channel migration processes. He has developed a physical-based bank erosion and retreat model (BERM) that takes into account flow parameters, sediment transport parameters, heterogeneity of bank materials, vegetation influence, and bank geometry.

Research Areas

  • Fluvial hydraulic
  • sediment transport simulation
  • riverbank erosion
  • channel migration
  • reservoir/estuary deposition
  • density flow simulation
  • arid/semi-arid hydrology
  • watershed land erosion and sediment yield
