As a hydrogeologist with a background in physics, mathematics, and education, I am interested in developing novel, cost-effect approaches to address challenging environmental and engineering problems. I am currently designing and testing a technique for single-borehole groundwater flow-speed measurement, which has the potential to significantly reduce the cost associated with tracking the movement of a groundwater contamination plume. I have designed, constructed, and conducted several bench-scale laboratory experiments to interrogate the effects of carbon dioxide gas bubble growth in groundwater, particularly in response to earthquakes. These experiments showed that the growth of carbon dioxide bubbles in an aquifer can explain how an earthquake at one location can trigger others over distances of thousands of miles in a phenomenon known as remotely triggered seismicity. I thoroughly enjoy building and designing experiments and hardware, particularly for hydrogeophysical exploration and site characterization.
