| Urban Flood Demonstration Program for Semi-Arid Regions |
Project DescriptionThe Urban Flooding Demonstration Program (UFDP) was initiated in 2003 through an appropriation contained in PL 108-7. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), and the Nevada State Board of Regents (NSBR) share the mutual authority and responsibility to develop and demonstrate innovative technologies for urban flood damage reduction and stream restoration in arid and semi-arid watersheds. This is a regional program, with a focus on the southwestern United States, but with broader potential application. Under the UFDP, tools or technologies that have been recently developed and have significant potential application to urban flooding and channel restoration projects in arid regions are to be applied to flood damage reduction/channel restoration projects for demonstration and evaluation. These goals serve the purpose of meeting the long-term needs of the Corps of Engineers, other Federal agencies, the State of Nevada, the engineering and restoration community at large, and the general public. |
Landscape and the Environment
