The DAS Renewable Energy research efforts are a natural extension of many of our research programs, building upon our air quality/emissions monitoring efforts, atmospheric modeling systems, analytical capabilities, and instrument development efforts to assess the environmental impacts and potential of renewable energy systems. Current studies are focused on the effects of replacing conventional fuels with those derived from renewable systems and feedstocks, wind and solar resource assessment, conversion of biomass feedstocks to improve their energy density and handling properties, and the development of analytical techniques to characterize the chemical properties and biofuel potential of biomass and syngas. In addition, DAS researchers are developing systems to aid with energy efficiency by monitoring power consumption, provide off-grid power using solar and wind produced hydrogen, and developing improved solar energy generation facilities. Future programs are likely to include addressing the impact of large solar facilities on soil resuspension and extending the current renewable energy knowledge and capabilities to developing countries. Please select a DAS research project for more information. |
