Air-snow exchanges and snow chemistry in alpine and polar areas |
Project Description
DRI investigates the fate of mercury on snow in polar (Summit Station, Greenland) and alpine areas (Niwot Ridge, Rocky Mountains). The goal of this research is to evaluate how both perennial snow surfaces (e.g., Greenland/Antarctica ice sheet: ~14 million km2 surface) and seasonal snowpacks (e.g., in the Rocky Mountains, Sierra Nevada) interact with the lower atmosphere (i.e., deposition and emission processes) and affect Hg inputs to ecosystems via snowmelt.
