While there several excellent resources for secondary in-service teachers to develop projects and lesson plans that include NASA data and projects, it appears that it remains difficult for teachers to find the necessary resources, both in terms of time and financial, to successfully integrate this information into their existing courses. This project aims to act as a bridge between these existing sources of projects and lesson plans and teachers to contribute to the integration of NASA data and products in STEM discipline course that will be taught in the 2012-2013 school year and beyond. This project will solicit between 20-25 STEM teachers from the Washoe County School, grades 6-12 to participate in a one-day workshop at the Desert Research Institute, Reno, NV in June 2012. The outcome of this workshop will be an individualized project for each teacher's use in a specific STEM course. These projects will incorporate NASA data products in hands-on classroom activities. Linking NASA's data and tools with active learning models of teaching can facilitate improved learning in the STEM disciplines and serve as a mechanism to achieve NASA's strategic goal of "engaging the public in NASA's mission." This project will directly impact approximately 2500-4250 students in the 2012-2013 school year and each successive year the workshop projects are used in the classroom.
