This Task Order focuses on relating NDVI greenness (an indication of vegetation health) to climate indices derived from the grids produced in Task Order 13. The primary grids of interest here include monthly and seasonal temperature, relative humidity, soil moisture, energy release component, Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI). The primary objective is to determine what roles climate plays in wildfire and prescribed fire management, and develop decision-support tools and provide guidelines for fire managers. Climate thresholds will be determined that will allow for a more national management approach to utilizing regional climate windows of opportunity. This concept applies to wildfire, prescribed fire and wildland fire use.
