Project Description

The primary purpose of this project is the linking of climate to vegetation and fuels management business. This Task Order represents this project's fourth year and proceeds to the next step of the prediction problem by relating the fire danger climatology and drought (and pluvial) to oceanic seasonal sea surface temperature (SST) patterns. SST is given emphasis here since it is a climate element known to drive atmospheric patterns, and numerous monthly and seasonal forecasts are readily available. The drought (and pluvial) data that will be used were derived from earlier task elements of this project that produced high-spatial resolution datasets of drought and precipitation indices including the Standardized Precipitation Index and the Palmer Drought Severity Index.
