The new IMPROVE equation represents an improvement over the old protocol, however, there are several issues that still remain to be addressed. DRI will conduct new experiments via the collection of new data collected in Great Smoky Mountain National park. This represents a high sulfate, high RH environment that would allow investigation of the issues of interest. Experiment will be conducted in August/September 2006 and the data analysis will be conducted in late 2006 and early 2007 consisting of the following tasks: 1) Collect high-volume PM2.5 aerosol samples, 2) Determine OCM/OC ratio, 3) Determine water growth properties for organic aerosols, 4) Evaluate deliquescence and hysteresis characteristics of inorganic aerosols, and 5) Conduct measurements of aerosol chemical composition as a function of size.
