Research Support

Science Support Editor

DRI supports a full-time position to assist faculty with a broad range of written and visual communications.  This position, based in Reno, is filled by Roger Kreidberg.  His educational background is in journalism, and he has had experience in both the public and private sectors in a wide range of communications projects.

Research faculty support:  A primary focus is to assist DRI and NSHE faculty with proposal development.  Other services include manuscript editing as well as preparation of presentations, posters and other graphic materials, white papers, brochures, Web pages, and qualification statements.  This service is based on a custom approach to meeting editorial and graphic needs, with adjustment made to reflect the needs of individual investigators.  Support ranges from extensive involvement at the beginning of the writing process to editorial review in the final hours before a deadline.

Editorial reviews always include consideration of sponsor and journal requirements, grammar, punctuation, spelling, word choice, style, consistency, economy of language, and format.  Since the value of the contribution increases with early involvement, a two-step process is often the most beneficial.  Initial review takes place at an early stage and provides preliminary input.  This is followed by a detailed review prior to submission.  Specialties include development of effective project summaries and editing to meet page limitation requirements.

Funding:  The service is supported by specific project accounts, Division funds, and central administrationFunding for assistance with proposals may be available through Nevada’s NSF EPSCoR program:  http://www.nevada.edu/epscor/services.html
