APPLIED RESEARCH INITIATIVE: Matching Grants to Stimulate Nevada's
Economy and/or Solve Critical Nevada Environmental Problems
All Applied Research Initiative (ARI) funds must be used to support research and to promote the economic
development and economic diversity of the State of Nevada. The following recent ARI project list shows the
range of projects that have been supported. ARI projects clearly support Nevada’s increasing research
capacity through additional research capabilities.
The ARI was established: (1) to leverage industrial dollars for research, and (2) to match federal/state
funds where a match is required. At least a 1:1 match is required; a higher match is desired (e.g. most grants bring
in over three times as many sponsor dollars in comparison to ARI dollars).
There are two major deliverables associated with accepting ARI funding. First, the PI is expected to meet
all the deliverables specified in the proposal to the sponsor's satisfaction. Second, the PI is expected to file
annual reports (even after the expiration of the grant) detailing how the ARI award led to economic diversification,
the solving of environmental problems, and new research activity at DRI.
More information is available for DRI Faculty and Staff through the DRI internal webpage under
EVPR.
