Weather Modification Project

TITLE:NOAA/Nevada Atmospheric Modification Program:
Mesoscale Structure and Microphysical Response to Seeding of Sierra Nevada Storms
P.I.:Arlen W. Huggins, Atmospheric Sciences Center,
Desert Research Institute
Sponsor:NOAA/Nevada

The goal of the weather modification project is to determine the impact of seeding winter storms with ground-based silver iodide generators. Modeling is being used to improve understanding of (a) the wind structure between the seeding source and the target and (b) the dispersion of seeding aerosols. Field measurements of the snowfall characteristics and analysis of sample chemistry and microphotographs are also major parts of the research.
