Development of an Operational Version of the MM5 Model
for Nevada and California

A real-time mesoscale forecasting system using the MM5 model has been
developed for application to Nevada and California, centered in
the Truckee Meadows (Reno). The model is running on two domains
with horizontal resolutions of 18 km on the outer and 6 km on the
inner model grid. The model uses current surface and upper-air data
from the observational network and results from the
large-scale/regional-scale Eta model to predict mesoscale
weather phenomena for the next 48 hours. The operational version of
the model is currently run on a multi-processor Origin 2000
supercomputer.
