The Coastal Jet Project used a high-resolution mesoscale model (MM5) to resolve the response of cloudy marine atmosphere to coastal topography, sea-surface temperature gradients, and properties of synoptic flows. The main objectives of the study were to simulate and analyze coastal circulations including their formation, evolution and turbulence structure. The study results contributed to improved understanding and forecasting of mesoscale dynamics in the coastal region with particular emphasis on local circulations, clouds, and propagation of coastally trapped disturbances.
