Dr. Papelis's research experience and interests are focused on aqueous and surface geochemistry; surface chemistry of mineral surfaces; spectroscopic investigations of complexes at the mineral/water interface; microtopography of complexes sorbed on mineral surfaces; physicochemical characterization of mineral surfaces; modeling of hydrous oxide/solution interfaces; modeling diffusion and adsorption in porous earth materials and adsorbents; radioactive waste disposal; water pollution from radionuclides; effects of mining activities on water quality; physicochemical water and wastewater treatment processes; aqueous chemistry of trace elements; chemical and geochemical fate of trace elements; aquatic and soil chemistry.
