PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Dr. Hampden Kuhns has been a principal investigator and an active member in numerous air quality studies. His current research focuses on the measurement and interpretation of fuel based emission factors from combustions sources. He designed and built the TRAKER road dust measurement system, a new tool for measuring dust emissions from paved and unpaved roads. Dr. Kuhns has also performed applied research in the fields of chemical characterization of air pollutants, measurement and estimation of fugitive dust emissions, source characterization, source apportionment, GIS applications in air quality, and modeling of secondary inorganic aerosol formation. Dr. Kuhns has extensive experience in ambient air pollutant and emissions data analysis and validation. He has worked closely with officials in local and state governments to ensure that results from air quality studies can be directly applied to air pollution mitigation, state implementation plan preparation (SIP), and compliance with U.S. EPA air quality standards.
