DAVID A. BENSON

Associate Research Professor

EDUCATION:

Ph.D., Hydrology and Hydrogeology, University of Nevada, Reno
M.S., Geological Sciences, San Diego State University
B.S., Geology, New Mexico State University

PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS:

Dr. Benson's recent interest deals with the governing equation of random particle walks.  Particles that move very far, very fast, may have a governing equation with a fractional dispersion derivative (e.g., the 1.6th). Particles that move into an immobile phase for extended periods of time experience "fractal time," with a fractional-order time derivative in the governing equation. Dr. Benson is also interested in contaminant transport in nonlinear systems, embodied in density-variable groundwater, or contaminants that partition strongly with an immiscible, non-aqueous phase.

RESEARCH AREAS:

Contaminant Transport; Hydrology of the Unsaturated Zone; Hydrogeological Controls on Availability and Quality of Ground Water; Integrated Watershed Systems.
