Professional Activities

Protima has worked on two projects the Murray Lab. First as an undergraduate she worked with the Lake Vida project in which she initiated anaerobic enrichment cultures with the -13C brine that we collected in 2006, and then characterized the multi-species cultures using a molecular community profiling technique called amplified ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis (ARISA). Next as part of her Biotechnology master's internship, Protima has worked on the Free-drifting iceberg project in which she has characterized the microbial community structure of bacterioplankton in the water column for depth profile samples collected during the June 2008 cruise too the Scotia Sea. She's using a molecular profiling approach called Length heterogeneity-PCR.
