Assistant Research Professor
EDUCATION:
Ph.D., Hydrogeology, University of Nevada, Reno, 2002.
M.S., Applied Mathematics, University of Nevada, Reno, 2000.
M.S., Hydrogeology, University of Nevada, Reno, 1997.
B.S., Earth and Environmental Sciences, Wesleyan University, 1992.
ACADEMIC AFFILIATIONS:
Graduate Program of Hydrologic Sciences – University of Nevada Reno
PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS:
Dr. Schumer’s research interests involve stochastic representation of surface and subsurface
environmental processes. She is specifically interested in mathematical modeling of processes
requiring use of power-law or “heavy-tailed” probability distributions and has developed models for
anomalous transport in porous and fractured media, recurrence of extreme events with power-law interarrivals,
and estimation of deposition rates from incomplete stratigraphic records.
RESEARCH AREAS: Hydrogeology; Stochastic Processes; Extreme Value Theory; Transport Processes;
Sediment Deposition; Statistical Hydrology
