Greg
Bortolin has
been at DRI since May of 2006 and
is the Director of Communications and Government Affairs. He coordinated DRI’s legislative agenda in the 2007 Nevada Legislature. His responsibilities include coordination of DRI’s activities with elected officials and agencies at both the local and federal level. In May of 2007, he was given the additional responsibility of overseeing DRI’s public and media relations efforts.
Bortolin spent four years as Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn’s Director of Communications and Press Secretary. He developed a communications plan for the Governor and coordinated the Governor’s media and public relations efforts during two legislative regular sessions and five special sessions. He organized and created a Joint Information Center within the Department of Emergency Management that includes PIOs from throughout the state. He also spearheaded an effort to install a satellite uplink in the capitol’s press room.
Prior to his stint in the Governor’s Office, Bortolin spent five years as the Assistant Director of Communications and Manager of Media Relations at his Alma Mater, the University of Nevada, Reno, where he served as the university’s spokesman. He coordinated the university’s media relations, managed the university’s homepage website content and oversaw the creative services division. He planned, researched, co-wrote and helped edit “Legacy, 100 years of Athletics at the University of Nevada.” He was elected to the Faculty Senate and was a member of the Nevada Silver & Blue alumni magazine editorial board. He continues to serve on the School of Journalism Advisory Board and is a member of the Nevada Wolf Pack Hall of Fame Committee.
A 1986 graduate of the university with a degree in journalism, Bortolin spent 10 years working for
newspapers, with experience as a sports editor, sports copy editor, columnist and reporter. He spent eight years at the Las Vegas Review-Journal, where he also worked as a stringer for Sports Illustrated and had Nevada’s only Associated Press College Football poll vote.
