17th Nevada Medal Lectures
Pyramids and Sphinx: Gifts of the Desert

In this lecture Professor El-Baz will illustrate, with color images, how the last major drought in North Africa 5,000 years ago may have ignited the spark that initiated civilization in the Nile Valley, and how the immigrants from the deserted land may have brought with them knowledge of the endurance of pyramidal structures in that windy environment and the natural landforms of wind-eroded rocks in the shape of the Sphinx.

The lectures are free and open to the public.
