SCIENCE BOX OVERVIEW
Kit #1

Name: “What a Way to Move”
Grade Level: K-2
Content Strand: Physical Science
Content Standard and Description: Forces and Motion – Students understand that forces such as gravitational, electrical, and magnetic influence the motion of objects.

Summary: Students will learn all about forces and motion by a variety of teaching methods ranging from basic vocabulary, fun filled hands on worksheets, and adventurous books. Ranging from the “Which Falls First?” worksheet, to the “Roller Derby” worksheet, kids will love to learn using all of the content that is included within this kit. A few of the items in this kit that will jumpstart the learning are: Ping-Pong balls, Dominoes, A wagon, and so much more. This kit also comes with an incredible variety of books that the kids will love for you to read to them, ranging from a classic Curious George book to an amazing Magic School Bus book.

Learning Cycle Lesson Plans: Here is the list of the lesson plans in this kit.

  1. “How do Objects Move?” – Through hands on discovery students will explore what makes objects move.
  2. “Which Falls First?” – Through experimentation students will discover that gravity pulls all objects downward at the same speed, regardless of their size or weight.
  3. “Roller Derby” – Students will predict, and then test to see if all objects move the same way.
  4. “Moving Marbles” – Through hands on discovery students will discover what happens to a motionless object when it gets in the way of a moving one.
  5. “How Fast Can You Go?” – Students will design and build a structure that enables objects to move fast.

What to Expect: By the end of this kit, the kids (depending on their grade) will know anything from being able to investigate and describe how objects move, to being able to observe and describe objects moving at different speeds.

Evaluations: Here is what other teachers have said about this box.
